世界盃八強賽今22日由東道主南韓在光洲迎戰西班牙隊，兩隊踢完正規90分鐘，以及延長加賽30分鐘，仍無法攻破雙方的大門，最後以0-0進入本屆世界盃第二場的PK賽。

第一場PK賽主角為西班牙隊，當時靠著門將卡西拉斯的傑出表現，以3:2擊敗了愛爾蘭男孩。這次，西班牙隊好運不再，卡西拉斯單手無力挽回戰敗的命運。

PK賽，由南韓老將黃善洪先踢，卡西拉斯雖然撲到，強勁的球還是彈進網內。不過，西班牙的希耶羅(Fernando Hierro)也輕鬆進踢扳平。

接下來，南韓朴智星、薛琦玹與西班牙巴拉雅(RubenBaraja)、札維(Hernandez Xavi)都順利踢進第二、三球，當南韓安貞桓踢進第四球，西班牙年輕小將璜奎恩(見下圖，Sanchez Juaquin)卻未能承受住壓力，起腳當下猶豫了一下，被南韓門將李雲在擋下；緊接著，第五球由南韓隊長洪明甫順利踢進，寫下南韓挺近四強這歷史性的一刻。

西班牙年輕小將璜奎恩不敢置信自己竟然沒有踢進12碼球，因為這一球的失誤讓西班牙註定與本屆世足賽說再見。
