南韓中場安貞桓18日成為韓國人民的頭號大英雄，16強賽與義大利的比賽中，安貞桓在延長加賽第27分鐘槌進一顆價值連城的「黃金入球」，帶領南韓以2-1殺進八強。

亞洲晉級希望之一的日本，今天不幸在開場12分鐘，被土耳其達瓦拉(圖中者)一記頭槌入網，終場就以0-1被擋在八強門外，無緣躋身八強。土耳其也首度獲得晉級世界盃八強賽的資格，將在八強賽中與非洲之星塞內加爾交手。
