本屆世足賽的超級大黑馬-塞內加爾11日出戰烏拉圭，上半場一口氣攻下3分；雖然下半場，烏拉圭連趕3分追平，但塞內加爾仍以一勝二和的戰績，順利晉級。首次參加就闖進16強的好消息，讓塞內加爾舉國上下陷入瘋狂慶賀的氣氛。

11日德國鐵血戰車與非洲雄獅-喀麥隆開戰，結果還是日耳曼戰車技高一籌，以2-0徹底轟炸非洲雄獅，讓雪梨奧運金牌軍-喀麥隆提早打包行李踏上歸途。E組賽況，德國以二勝一和分組第一的戰績晉級。
