中華桌球好手莊智淵一路過關斬將，今午在單打第三輪比賽，面對中國大陸好手，前世界冠軍的孔令輝，展露無比戰鬥力，以11-6、17-15、11-4、11-4直落四力克對手，挺進決賽，不過在金牌爭霸戰中，莊智淵面對中國大陸另一好手王勵勤，不幸以4-11、10-12、11-13、7-11直落四盤敗北，獲得一面銀牌。女桌單打冠軍決賽，由中國大陸女將王楠出戰隊友張怡寧，最後由張怡寧以4-3險勝老大姐王楠，獲得金牌。

在田徑場上，我國長跑健將吳文騫參加男子3000公尺障礙賽，以8分34秒76成績，與獎牌擦身而過，僅獲得第四名，十分可惜。女子200公尺預賽，我國陳淑娟則跑出24秒29，無法晉級複賽。稍早的女子撐竿跳，我國國內紀錄保持人張可欣以3公尺80成績，排名第6。(2002/10/9 潔絲敏)
